Foubert's (Chiswick, London, by pennypitstop)

Fouberts is Chiswick's local. It's taken pride of place on Chiswick High Road since as far as I can remember. It was once a very standard hotel and restaurant but the food was always good and the place was far from pretentious or snotty. Down to earth would describe it well. It was definitely most famous for it's scrummy ice-creams and also known for it's ever so slightly 'rude-but-real' Italian owners. Oh, and it had a nightclub downstairs too (where I spent many a drunken night).
Due to the prime location and real estate value, they gave up/got lucky/cleared debts/semi-retired (I don't know the true reason) and ended up selling the property for zillions of pounds to The Soho House Group (see here http://www.chiswickw4.com/default.asp?section=info&pa.... Thankfully Fouberts moved just around the corner to Turnham Green Terrace and still does a roaring trade in ice-cream sales. I believe that they also have a branch in Richmond, Surrey but I'm not sure if it's still there. Definitely worth a visit for the ice creams alone.

This place was just opened when I decided to give it a trial, at the beginning of june, on a sunday morning.
Is a small bakery, they've got a small kitchen too for breakfast, soups, salads.
But their topic is the pastry. The big window is incredibly full of good looking sweet treat of any kind (brownies, carrot cakes, spongecakes, croissants, cheesecake, bread, fruit cakes), all of them really colorfull and so yummy! As always, even though is good to see, I don't like the fact that anyone passing by can touch the food, or sneeze on it because there is nothing separating the customers from the window.
Anyway I ordered a cappuccino and a pain au raisin. They do serve your food at the table, so all you have to do is find a seat. Is a small place, with a big communal table with 10 seats, and 3 tables for 4/6.
For the first time since I'm in London the cappuccino was served at the right temperature, ready to drink (that was really impressing to me, since it takes me always half an hour to be able to drink a cappuccino without burning badly my mouth!). Was really well made and the foam didn't disappear while I was stirring it. The pastry was really rich in butter but so good. Crunchy, fresh, with lots of raisin.
Is a lovely place for a treat, if you need a break and a good coffee (I'll be back to try the savoury stuff).
One spot only: is really pricey! Cappuccino and pan au raisin (eat in) = £ 5.00.
But you can't really complain when you get good quality!

Chiswick is close to my new temporary hood in Hammersmith, and home to many fond memories spanning back to 2006. I couldn't step foot in W4 for until 2008, however Saturday night was another welcome return to the High Road as I hit the new boy to the Brixton ancestral pizzeria.

The interior was a little naff I must say, however it was the modestly priced food and broad selection of recommendations that compelled me to visit. The slow-rising sourdough taking a mere 20 hours is the unique selling point. The veggie-friendly buffalo ricotta (I know, I thought it was mozzarella too but then again I'm a bad Italian) loaded with crisp zucchini made me very happy. I'd only comment on the house white being served in a tumbler, which made me grimace on arrival, but nonetheless went down a treat. A victory for value and taste.

This place is the business. A tenner will buy you a tumbler of wine and a big round seriously doughy dinner. I think the theme is speed here, I've never been served so quickly, they practically flung it across the restaurant like a big formaggio frisbee.

Hands down the best pizza in London, served to you by real-life sicillian mobsters.

Had a standby appointment, have previously had standby appointments and have been really happy with it all.

This time the girl seemed to be in a real hurry to finish. She was very rough when washing my hair and splashed/wet my face when I had my face washed.

The cut was also rushed and she didn't take off enough length as I had asked. I felt too intimidated to ask her to take more off as she seemed in such a rush. The haircut is one of the worst I have had. Hopefully it settles down in the next few weeks as it is one of the worst cuts Ive had-- flat and shapeless.

The blow dry was okay. Overall she spent 20 mins on wash/cut/blowdry. I felt that she didnt care and wanted me out as quickly as possible because I was a ''standby appointment''. If this is the case why do they even offer this service? If they feel it is beneath them to cut well for this price then they should just refuse to. How dare they take this money and then do a rubbish job on someone's hair on purpose! I paid 25 pounds for this and what I got was worth half this amount. I have had a really horrible few weeks and thought having my hair cut would make me feel better but it made me feel 100x worse.

I think it is a real shame that I have had this experience as the 2 guys who have cut my hair there previously have been really lovely and treated me as a ''normal'' full paying customer. They spent time on my hair and chatted with me and were really genuine and friendly. If I could afford regular appointments I would not hesitate to book with one of them (sorry I cannot remember their names---one had large afro hair and the other guy had blonde hair).

Unfortunately I can't afford regular appointments with my budget at present but I will not be going back as a ''standby appointment'' as I felt so horrible and depressed (and inferior) from the way this girl treated me.

Absolutely appalling customer service, despite getting a freebie voucher. So I'd booked in for a body massage and manicure at 5pm on a Friday. Yes I was 10 minutes late (which literally meant 10 minutes), however I was rather dismayed to be told my massage would be half an hour. It was relaxing and sweet smelling etc. but I just felt that massage therapist was itching to get out her 'office' which would be fine if she was behind a desk, not attempted to soothe away my desk-side stresses.

Oiled up I jumped into my rather-too-tight clothes to be greeted my a distinctly chavy receptionist who informed me that the manicurist had gone home, simple as that. Yes she cooed apologies, but the fact was I'd schlepped 40 minutes across town to wholly inconvenient Chiswick, my nails deliberately looked hideous and I was prepping for a big club night. Totally unacceptable!

Now called The Michael Nadra, the food is still excellent. New menu each day, with an awesome set menu for lunches or early dinners from around £13-£15 per person for 2 courses.

The pork belly, mussels and various fish and chips (with different fishes from the usual haddock or cod) are all delicious!

I've always like this pub. It is great in summer as it has a nice garden and is also cosy in the winter. The food is lovely but very overpriced and the staff are often miserable. I've been in here a fair few times and despite it being a local pub where you would think they want to encourage locals to come back to, they make no effort unless of course you are antipodean! Next time I come in a smile wouldn't go amiss and also a full pint rather than 3/4 of a pint as I am paying almost £4 a pint.

I've helped a few friends with their moves in the past, so I know how stressful it can be and how much work goes into it. So, when I was getting prepared to move-I wanted to choose a lawyers who I could trust and who had a good reputation. Fridays certainly lived up to their reputation and I was pleasantly surprised of how much stress they took off my shoulders. They got away to a swift start and continued to keep up the good pace throughout the move. They kept in contact with me and always informed me of any unforeseen problems, changes etc. I put my move completely in their hands, and I didn't regret it at any time. 5/5!

i am very disappointed in Urban Extreme and especially Anita Wong, becourse i never got the Powerisers that i paid. Actually 2 pairs and when i sked them why they did not deliver, she disconnects the phone. She does not respond on my emails and does not refund the money. You can imagine what i think about this company.

Wollsey of Acton is the worst bike shop in London, both as dealers and as service. Having trusted their 'so-called' (now I can say it) reputation I had a bad luck to sort with them. If you hold dear your money and nerves keep yourself out of their shop.

PR 2 Hairdressing (Chiswick, London, by Mrs Smith)

Local reviews - Sun, 06/20/2010 - 08:01

My recent cut and colour had disastrous results. I have a standard bob that needed to have trimmed. I was not looking for a new style or any innovation. I went back after two weeks, because my hair was uneven (One side longer than the other). I was apologised to by the owner and he offered to repair the unevenness. It has now been two months and still living with poor haircut. After having another cut at a different salon, it is still growing. My hair is short and the bottom line is it will take 6 to 8 months to get my hair to return to my previous style prior to my cut at PR2. The colour had the same unevenness, one side highlights and the other nothing. I never write reviews, but felt compelled after my traumatic experience. I hope that this helps others to be careful and not have to go through the same long lasting results. It is so bad I am not sure how people stay in business with staff that ruins people's hair. I think it is basic to cut someone's hair even and I do not think it is asking too much after paying £170.

Incompetent team.
They sell massage and other spa products but they are only equipped to do hairdressing.

Bought a massage and a manicure there, the 1st one lasted 45 min instead of the 60 minutes it was suppsed to last, the second 15 min instead of 45 min with a poor job done by a young girl with dirty bitten nails.
The manicure was done on top of the waxing bed! When I complained the owner told me "yes I know but we re not a spa".
Basically they sell services that they can't provide.

Avoid if you don't want to be disappointed!!!!!!!!

Great value lunch time menu of starter + main from this Italian restaurant. Fairly quiet during the day so you should be ok to walk in and grab a table.

I strongly recommend the Mozzarella in carrozza starter and Spaghetti Bolognese main doused in chilli oil (you don't have to add chilli oil).

Service is quick and pleasant.

A fabulous neighbourhood restaurant in the heart of Chiswick. The food is seriously good with all the classics such as souffles, escargots, rillets etc as well as a few surprises. I recently went and had their France for a Tenner promo lunch/dinner offer and had the best steak frites i've had in a long time with a glass red for £9.95....best value in town. I've never had a bad meal here....the attention to detail makes the place special without being too formal..the lunch time £16.95 prixe fixe lunch is brilliant too....if you live in the area consider yourself lucky.
